Secondary Optics

(Total Internal Reflection, TIR; Reflector, Silicon and Glass)

In order to achieve desired effect designers have to shape light, controlling source light emission. This control task is performed through so called secondary optics so called because located on top of an LED once manufactured (because if an LED has a built-in optic this could be named primary optics). Material used for manufactuing lenses distinguish optics: there are plastic based, PMMA, TIR optics but also glass and recently silicon based optics, all handling light inserted in it, that is why are called Total Internal Reflection (TIR) but other optics are based on reflector approach, so called Reflectors, could be manufactured with plastic or metallic.
